I think that the Laura Esquivel chose the recipice that she did becuse that has to do with her childhood. The recipies could have been something foods that one of her family memebers and her would make.
I think Laura Esquivel might have chosen the recipes beacause of various family traditions. Her family might have made these recipes for special occasions or each recipe had a special meaning within the family.
The recipes also kept the story moving forward beacause you can't just leave food uncooked for your family, so you need to keep reading until the meal is prepared.
